If you ask car enthusiasts about the biggest sports car brands of all time, then one name will certainly be mentioned: Maserati. It's a brand with a history to which only a few brands can compare. The history of Maserati includes a wide range of sports car icons and incredible racing success.
Based in Modena and with a trident as a logo, the sports car company was founded by the five Maserati brothers in 1914 and has belonged to Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) since 1993.
Even today, Maserati stands for Gran Turismo in classic, Italian design style. The four-seater saloons Maserati Quattroporte and Ghibli make up the Maserati model range together with the GranTurismo and GranCabrio.
Unfortunately, for many years Maserati was just a shadow of its former successful self. Under the leadership of Sergio Marchionne, CEO of Fiat Chrysler Automobiles, new and ambitious goals were set for the company with the trident emblem. The new mid-class model, the Maserati Ghibli, should sell 20,000 models annually. For 2015 the goal was set at a total of 50,000 Maserati models sold – and this for a brand that in 2013 didn't even sell 5,000 units.
However, in 2013 Maserati managed an impressive re-entry into the medium segment with the new Ghibli. The Ghibli is offered as a gasoline engine (Ghibli, Ghibli S and Ghibli S Q4) with 330 to 410 HP and – almost a novelty for Maserati – also as a diesel (Ghibli Diesel) with a 3.0l engine with 275 HP.
It's precisely this 3.0l diesel that we took to heart at RaceChip in order to awaken the real sports car with the trident. Our optimization software in the RaceChip Ultimate individually adapted for the Maserati diesel teases out 347 HP instead of the standard 275 HP and a breathtaking 735 Nm torque instead of the standard torque of 570 Nm. As a result, you will enjoy an impressive driving experience. Moreover, the same diesel engine with 275 HP is also integrated into the Maserati Quattroporte, the brand's luxury sedan, and optimized by RaceChip.
